Odyssey Montessori friends Gerardo Despian and Brian Buckley had successful surgery yesterday. Apparently Gerardo had lots of liver to share, which means Brian will not have to work so hard to produce liver tissue. This is good news. Please continue to keep these brave men and their families in your thoughts as they begin the process of recovery.

Two former Odyssey Montessori fathers will share a bond beyond friendship tomorrow. Six months ago Gerardo Despian was initially rejected as a living organ donor for Brian Buckley. But persistence has paid off and Despian will be donating a piece of his liver to Buckley. The Odyssey Montessori community sends best wishes for successful procedures and recovery and commends both of these men for their courage.
If you would like to help the Buckley family, please feel free to contact Odyssey Montessori to learn how you can purchase gift cards for groceries and other essentials to be donated to their family.

The “Montessori method” is the foundation of the educational program at Odyssey Montessori. This method was developed by Italian physician and child psychologist Dr. Maria Montessori, nearly 100 years ago. Today there are Montessori schools throughout the world, including approximately 5,000 in the United States and more than 100 in Virginia—proof that this method of education is as relevant to teaching children in the 21st century as it was to teaching children in the early 1900’s.
We encourage all who are interested in Montessori in general, and Odyssey Montessori in particular, to make an appointment to visit our school and see our community in action.
