Core Values
Odyssey Montessori, its board of directors and staff will work to promote and maintain following core values: We value the JOY innately associated with studenthood and recognize that there is much adults can learn and rediscover from students. A natural sense of WONDER and a desire to learn are characteristic of studenthood. With this in mind, Odyssey Montessori values and will encourage self-discovery and the innate joy of learning that is part of being human. RESPECT is key to providing a safe and nurturing environment that encourages joy and wonder. Within our Montessori community, we value respect for oneself, for others and for our environment. We recognize that our community and our world comprise people who are different in terms of national cultural, physical, ethnic, religious, spiritual, emotional, educational, economic, social, intellectual and political background. We respect DIVERSITY and value being nonjudgmental and accepting of all people from all backgrounds. Knowing that our school will serve a diverse population, we value HARMONY and choose to address conflicts that may arise according to our value of mutual respect. We reconcile our differences through empathy, dialogue, and mediation. We value INTEGRITY and strive to conduct the school affairs in a manner in which our actions are in congruence with the values described here. In her study of students, Maria Montessori discovered that great satisfaction comes from SELF RELIANCE. We value taking responsibility for our own actions. Montessori philosophy and methods, within the context of these core values, facilitate personal growth in order to maximize academic opportunities. Emotional and social aspects of life will be nurtured and a rich cultural understanding will be encouraged in order to aid students in reaching their fullest academic potential.
